I want to hear people's opinions about windows 10, and if you will update and if so, when.

Re: Windows 10

What is so good about it compared to 7? Not to be a dick, but so far people's opinions in this thread are unsubstantiated or too generic to be useful. So did you upgrade your studio computer and everything still worked fine? Worked better? The same?

Does it use resources more efficiently? I was considering trying it on my laptop. I guess I could always roll back to 7...

Re: Windows 10

What's good about Windows 10 if you don't have a smartphone and/or touchscreen? Windows 10 tried to merge a phone and computer onto a computer. They got rid of the start button, which is a pain in the ass to find, and they made the programs run like apps, instead of having different windows and clicking out of them, you have entirely different screens for shit which take forever to load.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I'm on Windows 8 and have also received a free upgrade (icon)

I think you mean 8. 10 brings the start menu back. Some people have called it "The way 8 was supposed to be"

Re: Windows 10

8/8.1 is excellent under the hood but have terrible interfaces, only slightly improved in 8.1.

10 appears to fixes the interface. Not much in the way of new features that I'm interested in other than as side issues.

I will be upgrading to 10. I'll be trialling it on a test machine first, then once I'm satisfied I'll be installing on DAW machine.

I've avoided the beta as there's a lot of logging and shit that just makes it run slow. Last patch or so that was removed, or at least toned down and from reports is now performing better and I'm planning to install soon. Yes, I know 29th July. No, that isn't a barrier

For anyone still running Win7, bear in mind that Win8 onwards has more efficient hard disk streaming which is a benefit when running a DAW. For anyone still running XP, I facepalm in your general direction at even your strongest reasons for staying with XP

Probably due to the in-built antimalware services that MS use. You may find it still works but needs an update from your AV vendor, the warning probably only refers to the version in use. Not having seen your setup, I can't say with any great authority but that's usually the case.

Well Win 7 64bit with Norton 360 Premier Edition
And now after reading some info on the microsoft's page it might just be that it has to be uninstalled before you can install win 10.

Re: Windows 10

I tend to wait for any OS upgrade/update after the Win95 and Win98SE horse crap.ME was a complate joke and failure and I do not like being used and a beta tester who pays for an OS.Still run Win7 64 Ultimate without a single issue..skipped Win8 since I could care less about it..now with Win10 my main issues is drivers..companies tend to be slow to the table with drivers for AV gear and I do not like down time due to some stupid driver.Once the dust settles and all is clear then maybe..everytime I am an early adaptor I get burned can you say MiniDAT for your car audio..another thing that give me some concern is the whole free update thing..I have heard that it is indeed free but for how long until they throw in the subscription based pay scale( heard thru the grapevine that is a very real possibility).I will let everyone else play guinea pig..

Well, Windows 8 had a lot of efficiency gains itself. It's just that they nerfed the UI.

It's a simple workaround to avoid issues with legacy apps from Windows 95/98/NT days. There's a lot of old applications which have if (version = NT) else (version = 9x) which would cause massive issues on a new Windows 9 system. So it's easier just to call it Windows 10.

Yeah, you're wrong. They took all of that stuff out in Windows 8. They're putting it back in in Windows 10. Basically, the Start Menu is back and you can optionally add the best from the home screen (or whatever that monstrosity is called) to the menu.

I am still on windows 7. The interface for 8 has kept me from changing as I love the way 7 works. Hopefully they work out all the bugs for 10 and I will just skip 8.
