Icon4 Put your music on iTunes, Spotify... (I have tested Distrokid)

Hey All,

My girl was always telling me that I should be on Spotify, so that she (and others) can listen my tracks everywhere. So I finally decided to find a way to do so. I am not thinking this will make me famous of course, but I think Spotify is a convenient way to share my music. Many people are using Spotify on a daily basis, not SoundCloud.

So I tried one of these services that publish your music on stores, some kind of distributor that skips the labels and directly deals with the artists. I have selected distorkid (http://distrokid.com/). It put as much music as you want on stores for 20$ a year. Of course distrokid only publish on a handful of stores, but Spotify was my main target.

So I must say that it was a very good choice for me. It was incredibly easy to use and my unsigned music is now on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon and Google Play

Check this for example: http://open.spotify.com/artist/6FiU6pUWATsykz4fLlTWDL
Just this is worth paying 20$ a year imo

The best for me was the quality of their support, super fast and efficient. Spotify made a mistake in my artist name in my first release, and my regular label could not have this fixed, I was quite disappointed. Distrokid got it fixed in a few days!

The second best thing is that you get 100% of the earnings (but I don't think I will become rich soon, lol )

Hope this will be useful for you!

Cheers,

Luc

If you post your music on Last FM, it will be automatically synced to Spotify.

I don't think that works. I can't find any of my tracks on Spotify even if they're fully uploaded on Last.fm. It's only synced if user listens to that track from his own database.

You can try using CD Baby, Baseware, or Label Worx to distribute your music and guarantee it on Spotify.

A friend recommends AMAdea Music, it sounds even better than the one I used (Distrokid)

AMAdea:
You sign up for FREE
You can ulpload as much music as you want
You get 90% of your royalties, it shows you exactly who is buying your music and where
They have a world wide coverage of 97%
They don't charge you for content delivery to stores.
They also offer mastering services as well as CD and Cover manufacturing.
His first album is available on Spotify, iTunes, Beatport, Juno and a few others...

Distrokid:
You pay 20$ a year
You can ulpload as much music as you want
You get 100% of your royalties, it shows you what store/streaming service is bringing the money
They have a world wide coverage of 100%
They don't charge you for content delivery to stores.

There are tons. You just have to find the service that best fits your needs and that you like using the most. Sometimes you have to subscribe to a few different ones before you find the best one.

Yes AMAdea sounds really good. I think it's safe as one friend is using it.
He is also signed to one of their sub labels 'Chillax Music'

This does sound good. I see almost no reason to sign to a label if this is the case... Let the people come to me, no middle man.

Please, everyone, if you care even the slightest about your intellectual property, do NOT use CD Baby.

I can't say for sure about these other websites claiming intellectual property when you upload to their databases, but CDB most certainly does. Always, always, always read the terms of service for these websites.

Re: Put your music on iTunes, Spotify... (I have tested Distrokid)

So, I was in the process of putting one of my EPs on iTunes/Spotify/etc. through AMAdea and I got a rejection error. It's states "Product format included in the title or/and in the artwork" which means "You have included the product format (Single, EP, Album) in your title and/or in your artwork." I had EP in the title and the artwork. I don't want to change the artwork if there's a way around it (since I already released it for free through a netlabel). Does anyone else think this is weird?

yes sure, this is weird. I had no such issue with distrokid.
I guess you should email their support and ask them for help.

Cheers,

Re: Put your music on iTunes, Spotify... (I have tested Distrokid)

I used TuneCore and I think it was about 26 bucks for a year.
It distributed my album to a shit ton of different online stores including spotify, amazon, iTunes, and about 50 others.
They offer lots of other services too.
I haven't heard much about other distribution services but this is the one I used and it was easy and straightforward.

It wasn't available here in 2008-2009 (ish) and all it took was a UK proxy to get the download. YOLO

Also, distrokid seems to rock but they've fucking stalled my debut selphie because I had curse words in it. Fuck that.

Re: Put your music on iTunes, Spotify... (I have tested Distrokid)

Spotify, a music streaming service in the world than Deezer, Rdio and others that I have never tried. You ever try? If not, fair, because the streaming service was not so promoted worldwide. But this music service will soon shift the popularity of similar streaming music service, iTunes.

Lately there are a few friends on Facebook who play songs through the application called Spotify. Curious as to what the application is called Spotify, finally I tried to install Spotify on my laptop.

Spotify has a fairly large database of songs stored online. From what I see, it looks like all the songs legally.

If anyone is interested, you can have a 7% discount on distrokid signup using this "VIP link"

Personally I use that service for two years, and I'm more that totally happy with it
