How do I make this type of music?

I know that there are breaks posted online that people use, but do you just speed them up and go HAM on chopping them?

Dunno what kind of music you're refering to, but chopping breaks Im gonna assume breakcore. Usually I will take a break, remove the lowend, chop it like crazy, pitch it up, pitch it down, stretch it, apply effects to it and remove them over periods, ringmods, flangers, phasers, filters, maybe reverse parts, stutter them, so on and layer it with a neater kickdrum, sometimes also with stuff like a snare and a ride. I think it was squarepusher that said its about seing the instruments as more than they are, and realizing they can switch roles. You can use your drums for melodies, you can use the bass for percussion and the melodic elements to fill the bassrole. You can switch them up during the song, however you want. And thats what I figure its just all about, just do everything you feel like. Even if it sounds like shit, its not like it cant be revisisted.

Get six or seven roommates… eat hummus with them.
Book some gigs. Paint. Smoke cloves.
Listen to Animal Collective. Start some type of salsa company."

Re: How do I make this type of music?

Greetings.

I'd say its a feeling, more so than a "just do" formula. Speeding, effecting, morphing, warping, stretching, chopping, pitching, etc... all leading to reinvention , recreation and processing a new feel.
