Tutorial: How to get your bass sounding big, wide, and clean

Hey guys,

I just made this quick little tutorial explaining a little mixing trick I use to get my bass sounding nice and tight and clean, while at the same time having it sound wide without worry of muddying up my mix.

Feedback, thoughts and comments are most appreciated, and I hope this helps some of you guys out!

Thanks,
Syllix

Re: Tutorial: How to get your bass sounding big, wide, and clean

You address a great basic and effective technique with clear and concise explanation thats wrapped up neatly in a 5 min video.

I notice a lot of tut videos just take forever to show the example and explain it kind of in a convoluted way.

You show us the bass sound, the layers and then the full arrangement a bit which satisfies my curiosity of what the rest of the track sounded like; also good tone etc.

Quick, clear explanations of techniques without dead air, "ums", and wordy explanations was all I wanted starting out.

Re: Tutorial: How to get your bass sounding big, wide, and clean

@Acolyte5 thanks so much man! That really makes me feel good when I hear from people that they appreciate my videos. Funnily enough, my first video which is filled with um's and uh's is actually my most popular (I've made about 7 tutorials now).

I gotta say, I still struggle making these (took me about 3 hours to get a solid take without messing up), but once I finish I'm very happy. So people like you give me more motivation to keep at it, which in turn will make me better at making them

I'm giving YOU thanks for taking the time to post such an awesome comment and make me feel good.

Cheers mate!

Nice tute. I know what you mean about it taking much longer than it looks.

My first tute - I spent hours editing and then realised once I'd uploaded it you could see my system clock - it changed by about 6 hours during the 5 min tute...

Very nice! So from what i've been learning so far most things in the lower frequencies should be in mono while the sounds in the highers register should be stereo

Concise! Thank you! This was a very good tutorial. I like how you kept it to the point. Just as some feedback tho, consider listing what plugins you use in the video

Re: Tutorial: How to get your bass sounding big, wide, and clean

I wish I could spend the time to learn Logic but I am an Ableton guy. Nevertheless, your ideas can be translated to Ableton.

I think when I was choosing a DAW some years back I tried them all and Ableton was the only one that I instantly knew what everything did just by looking at it.

Re: Tutorial: How to get your bass sounding big, wide, and clean

I used to work in Ableton a few years ago. It was only because all my friends were using Logic. I wanted to use the same program all my friends had so we could easily share projects so that's how I eventually moved into the Mac world Ableton is still a good DAW and even has some features I wish Logic had.
