WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I've been at producing for about a year. From my personal trajectory, I can safely say this process takes years.
So now, I'm terribly confused. How is there a sudden (around 5 year window from 2007-2012) rise in EDM artists? Do they just pick a dozen a year to "share secrets" with? I dont get it. How are preteen kids figuring this stuff out? Is there some hidden treasure box of production secrets that I'm missing at?
I'm not complaining. I've been struggling ever since the day I started, but its a hilariously fun struggle. However, sometimes I wish the confusion between tutorials, books, and desires would all align into one coherent outcome.

Any thoughts on this matter?
they have the free time and are less rigid/habitual..which may make them more open to certain things.....also younger people grew up with technology...also being able browse the internet and find virtually any of the information they desire

Some people just learn easily. Some have talent/skill/musicality. Some people have long attention spans (and time on their hands), some are just smart.
Some have all of these traits and can pop up above the rest if they wanted to.

figure what out?
have you even listened to these shoehorned names?
they all sound the same. wanna know w hy?
because that's what major labels do; find one niche, and pump it out until nobody cares, then they find another niche and pump it out til nobody cares.
if you were to actually listen to the shit you would notice the rapid decline of talent during the years.

I do not know how old you are, but being 21 myself, I can't really tell if the amount of talent is decreasing or my expectation of talent is increasing. I mean, logically I compare everything I've heard to the best stuff I've heard in the same style. As the amount of music I've heard increases, so does my musical knowledge, and it gets harder to stand up to comparison.
And I suppose that this is also the reason why we think old music is better. We've only heard the good parts of it. The bad tracks disappeared, never to be heard of again.
Re: WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I don't think there's a decrease in talent, exactly, but it seems that way because you're always comparing to what you think IS good and talented.
I mean there's always been total shit in the charts, there's always been talentless hacks making it big because of image and marketing... You just don't tend to remember then after the limelight is passed, because some new hacky talentless douche pops up immediately spewing the same trendy crap.
Re: WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I dont understand it either. To make it worse theres a lot more limitations in electronic music than I ever would have guessed. I love making it because to me, electronic sounds are limitless. Some people paint with oil, others paint by numbers I guess.

+1
I agree with this. Talent is not decreasing... that's absurd whenever I hear that about music production. Along with the fact that the bad tracks disappeared, we tend to like music that we are familiar with. If we grew up with rap, we tend to like rap, if we grew up with country we'd like to country. Hence, we like older music better probably due to familiarity and possibly due to nostalgic reasons. Of course this is not always the case but I find it true in the people I've met.

Hardwork and being young.

I don't think talent is decreasing..talent is always increasing. However, so is the amount of shitty talent. More and more people get into music all the time its just a matter of weeding out the talent from the talentless enough to match your personal taste. I think a lot of what people think is talent decreasing is them realizing that certain types of music are really uncreative (cough pop, cough progressive house nowadays, cough electro, cough anything with pitbull, cough cough cough, cough cough pass).
Music is kind of like wine, you know those assholes who have an unnecessarily picky taste in wine? Well that's only because they've been exposed to some really good wine and a lot so they can actually taste and feel the differance. Same thing with music. If you have been exposed to some real quality stuff its hard to go back and listen to the radio, especially if you are a very attentive listener and you basically are able to pick up on all of the elements within a song.
I'm only 18 but I listen to a lot of Deep, Tech House, Electronica shit like that whereas most people my age listen to really shitty rap(that sounds like they used one drum machine to make the whole song...what the fuck happened to sampling!!)/ pop from the local radio station. Some people do extend their musical tastes a little bit, but I have met very few people my age who have an actual developed (to some serious extent) music taste. Unfortunately it is usually my age group that "chooses" (although its hardly a choice, marketing bullishit makes the choice for them but I won't go into that again..) so in parallel to the rise of "EDM" (I hate the fucking term) you have all the producers who just try to be each other and in the end end up producing really dry music.
Either that or they produce a simple product with a few well known names and a really catchy tune(which usually means the music has low variety and little instrumentation, I made this realization quite recently actually, try to get a complex rhythm stuck in your head! Its nearly impossible to bring up all of the elements....so now I'm a strong supporter of the "catchy equals terrible" theory) just to sell something and further promote themselves as scammers or like they like to call themselves "artists". AFROJACK....shame on you..
Re: WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I think the truth is people just like to think they are because they have been "producing" a year and all their mates love their tracks. Great way for someone to over inflate an already bloated ego.

Re: WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I think the talent in producing quality sounds has increased. Because vengeance samples take talent to place into a drum rack! but really the true talent is still out there and it is limited. Just because you can create a song that sounds well produced because of spectacular presets and already processed samples doesn't mean its good. Out of all the of house songs I've heard in my life, I could probably name... 20 that I think are really mind blowing. The other stuff is just...house. People like electronic sounds, which are easy to make sound cool with all the effects you have. I mean who wouldn't want to listen to a extremely reverbed / ping ponged sound all day?

Couln't agree more. For me 99% of the progressive house looks the same. Just like black metal. LOL!

I've been producing for more than a year and my mates hate my tracks. By the day they can tolerate my stuff, I'm probably ready for mainstream success.
Re: WHATS THE JOKE? How is EVERYONE a superstar producer all of a sudden?
I'm 16 and have been producing since i was 9. And i am nowhere near being a superstar! Sure I am signed but i guarantee i sold no more than 100 songs! It's all about hard work and dedication, and the love of music! Sure some people are born with more musical talent than others, but the biggest part about becoming famous is working hard and loving every minute of it!
