Icon3 Drumstep.

So yeah, my question is simple, really simple.
I have been producing electro/house for over a year now and now im really getting in to drum and bass, especially the sub-genre Drumstep.
My question is simple; How do you make a Drumstep drop?

Im thinking in the style of this song

soundcloud .com/rekoil/rekoil-a-brief-tutorial-on

it seems like it just changes the melody in all ways and is very very high pitched.
I cant tell at all what kind of sound(bass) he is using for the drop.
I would like help with aking these kind of "gliding" basslines.

I use ableton with massive, for your information.

Re: Drumstep.

LOL, that's hilarious. What you want to know is how to make reeses, that's the bass synth for DNB. *Basically* a bunch of detuned saw or square oscillators, distortion, pile on a bunch of effects, detune more, chorus, reverb, modulate, add filter automations, compress, bit more distortion, phasers, more filter automations and you're done!

Do some research.

Good ear on the "gliding". In fact, DNB basslines have lots of pitch bends, even synths bending without regard to the others, subs stays static, etc. We're talking up to two octaves here.

Well, this isn't DNB so I rather don't care for it. Do me a favor and drop all this halfstep silliness and just make straight jungle drum and bass, eh?

Re: Drumstep.

Drumstep is something I just can't get into. I LOVE D&B and I like a fair share of dubstep, but combining the two just sounds 'off'.

Re: Drumstep.

I never really liked drumstep when I first heard it, but now it's really grown on me, I often end my dnb mixes with a dose of drumstep to change things up a bit.

Skream - Midnight Request Line (DJ Zinc Remix) this was drumstep before drumstep was even a genre

Rusko - Everyday (Netsky Remix) always goes down a treat wherever it's played.

I love the new Zomboy drumstep track Nuclear (Hands Up) too, that offkey reggae vibe is great.

Three pretty different drumstep tunes there haha.

Love that Datsik & Subvert tune btw.

Re: Drumstep.

Uhh, I've never really understood this drop-thingy. Anyone care to explain this to me? The clip [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
posted, there's few notes of "bass" at around 0:27, which to me sound just like a basic lead? Then it is followed with some silence and starts again, now with a bass?

Re: Drumstep.

Most Drumstep is crappy, but there are a lot of great half step DNB tracks. Yes, I'm implying that there is a difference.

Haha yeah there is a difference IMO. To me drumstep focuses more on including dubstep elements, almost like a fast dubstep track, whereas half step DnB tracks sound like...DnB at half the speed.
