sampling vocals out from other tracks like chemical brothers

Hey All,

I've been trying to re-create "Leave home" by chemical bros from scratch and cant figure out how they got the vocal "brothers gunna work it out" sampled so clean?

I have the original track that they sampled but I can't get the vocal clean enough - there is always drums or synth bits left in my sound, I've tried;

- Finding all instances of the vocal in the track
- Selective EQ
- Volume Cuts
- Inversion/Utility with overlaying other loops of the track

But I still end up with synth and percussion parts in the background. The inversion trick cancelled out the Kick drum, but I can still hear hihats.

in the chem bros version it is really clean and I cant work out how?

are there any other ways to separate vocals?
how on earth did the chemical brothers do it way back when this was created?

Apparently it was a sample off this blake Baxter track called the brothers gonna work it out, so ive been using that as my source material.

Hey.

Thanks for the help brother!

I ended up stumbling across another movie clip on youtube

it seems that they may have sampled the movie called 'the mack' originally.. I searched the subtitles file and i think there is a line at the end of the movie about the brothers gonna work it out.. will see if i can grab it from there..

there's also the public enemy track which is conveniently available as an a capella but cursory research seems to indicate willie hutch is the source

the chemical bros even put that track on a compilation

Re: sampling vocals out from other tracks like chemical brothers

Hey Thankyou all for the tips!

on the movie the only part where 'brothers gonna work it out' is sung.. and in the original its spoken.. so i guess the best bet is to try track down the 'brotherpella' from that house tune... havent been able to find it yet.

Either way, cool suggestion about those funk chords.. not sure how it contributes towards making chemical brothers music, but i love the funk sound so i may use that in the future with my music =)
