I know iŽll need to download some drivers but my next laptop (i need it by the cause of my job) will be an Alienware. More power for the same money.

I'm producing on a gaming laptop myself (Asus ROG G750) and it works great. Portable studio ftw.

Re: Using an Alienware laptop for music production

my laptop supposed to be for "entertainment" too (as advertised) and came with tons of assus bloatware, like there's this entire row of buttons for instant music media center trigger (wtf is that thing). Good thing I've disabled that. All music i did was in this same box because I suck.

so yeah, gaming laptop = studio. Only losers invest in something different than that.

Re: Using an Alienware laptop for music production

I have used a Macbook pro almost ever, i have had three across the years... however, i am a bit tired of his very expensive price, above all if you live in Europe, like me.
My current old Macbook Pro canŽt with my music, if i play more of two or three rack extensions. So, for the same price, i have chosen the new Alienware laptop.

Re: Using an Alienware laptop for music production

you're better off looking at specs than a brand. alienware makes all kinds of models with different specs. i recommend something with a 3.4ghz cpu (dual or quad core etc), at least 8 gb of ram and at least a 1 terabyte hard drive, then you can get something like an external solid state drive for saving your music project audio on.

I'm positive alienware makes that very spec laptop since they are known for high end gear.

Truth bomb right here. Although quad core CPU would be better for "professional" work such as music production because most professional software can take advantage of more cores.

Although, it's difficult to recommend a laptop CPU because they're usually way less powerful than a desktop CPU. At least in terms of Intel, a newer generation i7 laptop CPU is weaker than my older i5 desktop CPU. And if you want something as powerful, you'll need to cash in more.

If OP could somehow find a decent price for a desktop with good CPU specs, then get it. OR, op could learn how to build his own PC :p

Generally the best kind of Laptop CPU OP would be looking for (if he's dead set on sticking with a laptop config instead of a desktop config) would be an i5-MQ Series, i7-MQ Series (MX series are better but bang-for-buck-wise are not worth it) or a Xeon E3-1500M Series (pricing on Mobile Xeon's are also abit iffy at the moment) as these are generally where the best-performing quad-core laptop CPU's reside (with the i7-MQ's and Mobile Xeon's also featuring Hyperthreading which is extra useful).

Eurocom are a great company for this kind of situation since their custom custom config is extensive. They split the laptop selections into categories (Super Gaming, Gaming, Mobile Workstation, Mobile Server, Ultra-Portable) and you can configure precisely what you want moreso than most custom-building services.
If you're willing to splash the cash with Eurocom, their top end bulky chassis Workstation Laptops & Server Laptops even support Desktop i7-K's and Desktop Xeon E3's which will certainly give the user a pretty extreme on-the-go processing edge over any other kind of laptop (at the expense of low battery life & being the heaviest "laptops" around haha).

Don't expect to run the Alienware on battery for too long. They are more like desktop replacements.
