Pads

Why are pads called pads, when I picture pads I see an MPC in a my head, but MPC's go "thud" "chi" "ts" "pop" not brrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooooo oouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssss sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeee.

how did the pad get it's name?

No idea but the word pad to me suggests padding and that is just what the sound of a pad does to a track.

Picture an (MPC) Pad - It has a surface, right? Picture; Pad - Surface - Space.
A pad sound is a rather "large" sound, "large like the space of the surface of a pad.
Thats what I think the term comes from - When I think of the german word for pad and combine both...

Like I said, if I compare both the english and german words its pretty obvious. A pad sound has a rather wide dimension (Its wide spread) compared to other elements of a track.
Also regarding Freqs Spectrum, but the slow Attack/long Release, Delay Reverb and basically the whole character of a pad sound generates this wide spread dimensional feeling.
The dimension of the surface of a pad - Do you get what Im trying to get across?

[E] Of course Im referring to the german word for a pad sound, not just the german word for pad.
