Can we talk about other 303 clones in this thread?? If so could we get the thread title altered to say so??
The only reason I ask is because I have just had confirmation that my Bassbot TT-303 is shipping!!! Woooooot!!!!
I always use lots of acid type sounds in my tracks and was torn between the xoxbox & the TT but the TT won in the end because Thoman.de have them for £411 shipped
I cancelled my order for the Volca bass with I still haven't received since ordering last September!!!
My reasons for choosing the TT303 also include the OS with its pattern 'shifting' etc, the looks (shallow I know but I've got to look at it when I'm using it and the xoxbox looks 'homemade' to me) and it sounds good enough for acid judging by the computer controlled video I saw.
Gotta get a distortion for it. I assume the MXR pedal is good, any other suggestions?
It was from an Aldi in Australia as I recall from the guy's GearSlutz post. $20 Livingstone E10 DS iirc.
I know the US Aldi doesn't carry these. Maybe in the UK they do? He only sees them in February, too.
Thanks mate. Aldi is a bit weird but I'll check them out. They do 'specials' on Thursdays over here and it's stuff like 'fishing gear' one week, then 'walking/camping' then maybe something electrical so it will probably be a waiting game - will grab one if I see them though.
I don't want to get too much into buying outboard fx so I'm thinking a couple of pedals might just fill a void - my mixer has a really basic multi fx which does ok for adding a bit of verb or delay so a bit of overdrive and maybe a different delay might be enough. I like to look of the new little Moog boxes but they seem a touch pricey compared to stuff from other companies.
My pedal experience is with my mates quite high-end stuff (empress, eventide etc) and I would like those but not at those prices. Budget but usable is what I'm probably aiming for
So my Bassbot TT-303 arrived yesterday and I had a quick play about with it last night. First impressions are not brilliant as it's a very light plastic box which slides (lol) around on my desk due to it having plastic feet. Build quality isn't what I would call 'premium' either and my Resonance knob catches the case a little at the high end.
However, all my reservations were removed once I started it up - it sounds pretty much like a 303 to me (I've used 'real' ones before and lots of software clones) but the best thing about it for me is the OS. I read lots of shit about the TB303's sequencer and how it sets apart the synth from others and maybe that is the case but they can be a bit shit IMO to program. The TT however has lots of cool modes for creating, morphing and editing patterns and sequences of patterns and it will suit me just fine.
Oh and one more thing. £411 brand new from Thomann - Digital Village wouldn't price match (despite their website suggesting they do) so I saved £120 (DV want £529) - looks like zee Germans are getting my money from now on.
I never really got my head around how to use it, but you can get fun acidy sounds out of it.
"Get yourself together, man. Move to Philly. Buy a loft. Start a noise band.
Get six or seven roommates… eat hummus with them.
Book some gigs. Paint. Smoke cloves.
Listen to Animal Collective. Start some type of salsa company."
I have a Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot and like it alot. I had Studio Electronics 3003 and sold it a year later. The Bass Bot has the look of a TB303 and the sound comes very close especially nowadays where the original 303 sound quite different among eachother as they are in age and their electronics too. Can recommend the Bass Bot to all 303 lovers.
I have an x0xb0x with atomic mods running sokkos, Studio Electronics ATC X Quad, and Future Retro 777. Rarely use the ATC for anything acid, just all mono workhorse duties. Rarely use the x0x after I got the 777, which fulfills anything acid. Not fair to call it a 303 clone, as it does so much more. External input for the 3/7 pole filter is super nice.
I lost interest in building stuff after I tried a PAIA project around 10 years back. I bought my x0x used so I wouldn't have to bother, and I love it! It sounds leagues better than a Bass Station I used to have. It's a no brainer to me.
