What's your favorite hardware synth

I have just recently acquired a M-Audio Venom and I love it. Got it for about $300, and I really like the style of using hardware synths with VST's. What are your favorites?

Welcome to the Hardware Elite Club.

I know I could do more with VST instruments, but I don't find it fun or inspiring...

Re: What's your favorite hardware synth

I don't touch unattainable high-end gear (especially not good synths or guitars), I don't want to be ruined. I've played with the Microkorg and Venom... I want them both, and that's literally all I'd ever want to add to my setup.

Also, I miss my KP3 so I'll add that to the list. Kaossilator pro looks awesome, too. Ramble, ramble, ramble.

I believe the Hardware Elite Club is located at Muffwiggler

I have dozens of cheap ones and I don't really want anything, I wouldn't mind an analog4 tho.

The must fun piece of hardware I've ever owned was my ESX, which is really more a sampler.

So, I'll go with Monomachine.

i have a venom.
sometimes i want to smash it to pieces and set it on fire.
other times, it comes in very very handy (laying out noisy stuff below a clean track, etc).
it sounds great after being super-processed, but i've described before as "a vst with downs syndrome".

favorite hardware synth: my modular. i have a thing for drones. programming one with cables and knobs, then feeding it to an automated effects plug-in is something i can do for hours on end..

the modular looks like this:

Re: What's your favorite hardware synth

List of my long gone synth

E-mu..pretty must the entire line..was a Skittles colored rack...
Original MS-20....sniff
OB-8...double sniff.
Various Rolands over the years.

Fanatasy gear would be Keith Emerson's Moog modular...

One day I will get them all back even though for most I have a softie version..but nothing like real knobs..

But I do get to mess with a Little Phatty and a couple of Elektron's a Juno-g..Nord and a M50 over at Rixtr's place.

If we're talking synths I've owned before I'd say the Elektron Monomachine. If we're talking any synth owned or not I'd say the Access Virus TI Polar.

Sometimes I still miss the harshness and in-your-face-ness of the DSI Evolver.
Only synth (apart from the small modular rig) that I really miss selling.

Re: What's your favorite hardware synth

For me it's the classic pair..the Yamaha CS-80 and the Prophet-5..the originals of both are well out of my reach, sorry to say, but my dream of having a CS-80 might still become real in the form of the recently announced "BoomStar SE80" synth from Studio Electronics ( [Only registered and activated users can see links. )..which will retail around the $1000 markand was unveiled at the 2014 NAMM Show.

At the moment, the nearest I have is the vst version in the forum of Arturia's "CS-80 V", which is pretty dame fine sounding..but still not hardware.

Just wanted to ask if you have run into that issue with the Blofeld, that I've read so much about online..something about it giving off a hum when plugged into the USB port?

Just wondering, as I'm seriously thinking of getting one..love the sounds it can make..and it looks pretty swish, too.

Ah..ok..thanks for that anyway. From what I've read it seems the issue only pops up if you are using it via a USB port..so I'm guessing from what you said you aren't connecting it that way.

Re: What's your favorite hardware synth

I've owned a lot of synths over the years, mostly vintage stuff. My favorite synth is a tie between these 2:

Arp Axxe. I just love this synth. It's so easy to use and program musical sounds quickly. I prefer it over the Odyssey which I've also owned.

Crumar Bit-One. I really enjoyed the sound of this machine. It was very musical and had a great kind of "lo-fi", vintage tone.
