He's probably worried, I'd assume, that they won't work without one.

Just a guess.

Well people were suggesting it on other forums but you never know if its the elitist "you have to spend big bucks" people or if there is a real necessity for such equipment. I am definitely convinced of getting a audio interface, as It would prove useful for my midi and analog needs. Plus I've bought into the 24-bit depth audio interface quality hype.

Choosing equipment can be such a pain in the neck.

Okay, I placed my order for a focusrite scarlet 2i4

I am also getting some Senheiser 280 pros for a discounted price.

My Midi keyboard is a bit older and needs the midi inputs. About the media I didn't mean midi effecting the wave form.. I meant maybe effecting your production quality by having a high response time, making it hard to sync up or something.

Thanks for all of your input guys.

Just so you know, the midi keyboard isn't what causes the latency that you call response time but rather the driver and audiocard combination - as you are getting a good interface you won't have much to worry about once you have set it up.

If when you have it set up it still feels laggy or delayed when playing the midi keyboard to trigger a softsynth then you might not be using the best settings, so don't panic - look at the 'buffer size' in the interfaces properties and set the ASIO buffer lower. You can get it to a point where its almost undetectable to all but the very best keys/pianists.

I use Audio Technica ATH-M50 cans. I just plug 'em straight into my laptop. Some folks recommend using an amp, but I think they're great without one. Then again I'm no pro, just a guy with an opinion.

I have them too. They sound great to me. When I have them on I hear nothing else even with the volume down low.
