Good drum samples for metal?

Anyone know any good (free) drum samples that would work well for metal? I mostly have just old drum machines in my sample library. That and if anything I usually find a lot of samples that work for just dance music or whatever....

Oh and up til now I've used mostly Kalava drum samples......kicks 20v and 11d for most of my stuff. but looking to thicken up.

To be honest I just sample metal drums from other metal.
I personally like death metal drums, and this is the best video you can get amazing drum sounds from:

Also if you have dropbox, I am willing to share my metal drums.
I use them in my breakcore.

Re: Good drum samples for metal?

I could make a small pack of the ones I have, it's all snares and kicks though. i just use Addictive Drums for the rest.

I would absolutely download that.

I need some new samples for when I jam with myself.

Disclaimer: I have no samples of my own right now (but some beefed-up 909's) so I would be the leecher in whatever arrangement described by the next post.

Re: Good drum samples for metal?

I suppose we could just make one big swap somewhere as I'm always hoarding samples myself. And wouldn't mind new ones, especially for metal.

Re: Good drum samples for metal?

Honestly these are mostly not of my making, just a bunch I've found all over the net. Some are processed and some aren't....I think most of the kicks are processed, but most of the snare stuff is raw. I just threw em all into one zip, so you have to listen to some to figure out which is which since some dont say snare or kick.

Re: Good drum samples for metal?

Metal - basic 5+ piece drum set - played hard? Really matters is what kind of metal or cross genre style you're trying to make. Thicken them up? Mix in some electronic drums lowpassed maybe.

I've gotten links from here with some really deep real drums samples.

I have this one folder named 8000 that had a large amount of very good acoustic drums. Can't remember where it linked from, here or not. It also had folders for some analog synths, Motif, qs8fx and Moog. For acoustic drums there were many kits labeled A through M plus a 60's kit, a Maple Kit, bent drums and many electronic kits.

Maybe sombody now the one I mean. And saved a link.

If that link still works you'll have a large amount of real drum kits. And other stuff.

Re: Good drum samples for metal?

This is all well and good but where do the royalties factor in? do you let it? What about the rips from other songs that people use? Naturally I want good sound but there's always the legalities to consider.

Most of the ones in the pack I posted are just made by non-famous people like you and I. Best bet is to use the raw ones as those are not attached to any particular recording or band, and were given out for free on purpose.

Yea I was kinda looking to stay away from "stock" copyrighted drums. I'm big on royalty free, diy, etc sort of shiz.

Speaking of which I have about 70 gigs worth of CM royalty free samples to comb through......

Here there are a lot free metal oriented drum samples. Many of them are multisampled to create variations when triggered in round robin. There're also samples in .GOG or .tci for drumagog and steven digital trigger

If decide you're serious enough to pay for the software, Toontrack Superior Drummer is a really good way to go. Big sets, multiple samples samples per piece of kit. Really great.
