Old Firewire IO and Windows 7/8?

Is anyone using an older Firewire interface with Windows Se7en x64 or newer?

I am using a Tascam FW 1804 and sometimes a Digi 002 and as my computer updates more and more I seem to be having more issues with the sound dropping out or degrading to the point where I have to restart them.

I've used a profire 610 for 5 years and have had very few issues. What I've always read is that your PCs firewire port should be a Texas Instruments chipset for the best results. No idea why though, but I have one and it seems fine.

Also check your buffer settings and see if that's whats causing the 'degradation' in sound quality.
