Dj controller suggestion

Im looking to buy a dj controller but dont know what to get. It'll be my first one so im looking for something fairly simple and cheap. I dont want to spend loads on a top one then find out its not for me. I got around 150 to spend. So please can someone recommend one? Thanks

Re: Dj controller suggestion

I once had a Vestax TR-1, good midi controller, went well with Traktor. Don't know how much they sell it now..

Save up for Kontrol S4. I went the cheap route in the beginning. It didn't go very well....

Re: Dj controller suggestion

plan on going somewhere to perform with it?

have that in mind before you buy some lunchbox controller, cuz you are going to look like a joke to anyone who would hire you

i know cash is always an issue, and i really dont know what to suggest to you...

depends what you wanna do, wanna dj, then you dont really NEED a lunchbox controller for that
you need a decent mixer and audio interface, get one and save up for the next

vestax has street rep, bcd 3000 is for bedroom use imo, altho the audio interface goes in its favour

think through what you want, and save up or pay up

what the fuck

nobody cares what your controller looks like. They care if you can drop the beats. if anythign having a quirky control surface is a BONUS because people love silly gimmicks.

the owners and resident dj's do, you wouldnt believe the shit i have to deal with just because my mixer has behringer logo on it. i know what you are saying, its true 95% dont care as long as the sound is crisp and the music hits the spot

the problem is that once you get a gig, its in your interest to get it again

and if you got a cunt runing back an forth behind you trying to fix the sound all night, and blaming your gear for it, then that my friend is the most frustrating thing you can imagine...
nvm that the sound is going through the cheap ass no name mixer he has, some front of house mixer under the table, then the compressor, and then the amp... im glad one of his active speakers fried though

anywho,

sadly the music industry today is 90% show, and gear is an integral part of it
a hercules controller and a laptop isnt going to cut it, imo, which means its just my view of it, not a sacred dj scripture all must bow down to

sides my ddm4k looks like a xmas tree when it lights up hehe, and its a controller and a mixer with all the fx you need.

you can preach all day how other mixers have this an that and a "better sound", although no one could tell the difference between that and a pioneer mixer, at the end of the day, it served me for over 3 years and its still working fine

wow what a rant

I have been using a VCI-100 SE edition modified from djtechtools.com for a few years. Perfectly fits my style and runs great with controller. If you plan on using TP2 I would suggest either the new S4 or a VCI-100 SE with a midifighter. check out for [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
they have a bunch of info about controllers

That is what I bought before realizing my mistake with going cheap. You'll very quickly feel limited in what you can do.

Trust the Collective, go big or go home on this one.

Oh.

Well in that case, the Mixtrack makes an excellent piece of gear. Make sure you get the one with the soundcard.

This is a really good offer - [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
You get Traktor Pro 2 software and a carry bag when you buy the Traktor Kontrol X1 controller. It's only $199 USD, but only lasts through August.

You could just use an adapter and connect your PC speakers to it. If you have monitors and a mixer you just plug the line outs into the mixer, like an instrument. Because it has a built in soundcard, the sound travels from your computers USB to the controller as digital audio data. It is then converted to analog sound and then out of the controller into your speakers.

Re: Dj controller suggestion

Got a NI S4 two weeks ago, and i gotta say its amazing...
Its extremely intuitive and all the components are high quality.

I got mine used for 50% of the normal price with extra goodies.

Take that with a grain of salt tho, I'm just starting this so i have little experience with Preforming and the software/hardware,
