Yes, what ghytwembpang said, turn it down!

Whenever I bring in a new audio or instrument track, I usually leave about -3db to -6db headroom while I'm mixing. A lot of people do this to avoid peaking and then towards the end you open up the mixer and adjust the levels on everything.

I do turn it down. would you say you turn down your whole mix or do you just turn down that one synth that is too high or has too much of a sharp pitch too it?

Re: How to keep from peaking

Leave the master bus volume at 100%. Turn every other bus down if you have to.

Re: How to keep from peaking

Leave the master at 0.

if you want to lower the overall volume, select all of the faders and pull them down by the same amount.

if it's just one track causing clipping, just turn the one track down...

Re: How to keep from peaking

After you turn the level down - learn about gain, digital clipping, bit depth, gain-staging, distortion, etc.

Re: How to keep from peaking

EQ and compression can also give you a lot more headroom.

Re: How to keep from peaking

Keep volumes down,EQ everything(Subtract and cutoff only),some sounds and samples can even have some "distortion" even if you cant hear it,so cut everything to its own frequency range.Later on you can add some compressors on master and get your volume back with clean sound.

Now that i said it,im going to learn gain, digital clipping, bit depth, gain-staging, distortion, etc.
Reading a Guide to mixing form a guy here on forums, found some usefull knowledge in it.
