So how far does it get? Do you actually see the Ableton logo/start screen at all before it quits? No Windows error messages? You might check in Event Viewer (Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer), both system log and applications and see if there's any reference to ableton.exe or similar.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ableton? Did you install any 3rd party plugins that might be causing it to choke? If you haven't yet, you might try holding down Alt during startup to disable plugins and see if it makes any different. That'll tell you whether it's plugin related at least. Also might try [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register] .
It honestly sounds like something got corrupted along the way and I'm wondering if a reinstall wouldn't fix it up. If not it at least rules that out and points to something other than the program itself.
Wow, yeah. That's really strange. But you're on the right track. Troubleshooting is really just eliminating the various options until it resolves itself. Once the easy/obvious stuff is out of the way it gets really interesting/frustrating. I'd check the Event Viewer logs and see if anything shows up, and certainly the trial media as well. If all else fails reinstalling the OS will hopefully do the trick.
I did submit a support ticket. But I have solved the issue regardless.
I was impatient, and I didn't relaize when doing a fresh install of Windows 7, that windows doesn't download updates and install them, but rather downloads and reboots and downloads and reboots ina cycle for like 12 hours.
Long story short, windows needed to update completely.

This is a good reminder for the rest of us to not go back to Windows 7. Good luck on your mission, though.
