Namm 2017 - Interesting?

Think its on day 2. Seen a few posts dotted about the net and inbox.

Anything inspiration for IDM in there?

A few things. One of them is Verbos moving to Berlin which might make things cheaper in Europe?? Buchla clones should be affordable!!!

I guess the Elektron box will be of interest too.

Re: Namm 2017 - Interesting?

What I'm curious to know from small small companies at NAMM... is if the cost of having three square feet to present their stuff was worth it.

It looks like hell being there for four fucking days...

I was at bicycle trade shows many times and it was bad enough being there for two days without all the noise.

Only thing that got me perked up from NAMM this year is the new Pocket Operator that TE announced that's based on Sonic Charge Microtonic

The uTonic guy could release a full hardware version of it and I suspect it would'nt cost all that much... and that it would sell like hot cakes

I haven't used uTonic, but from what I know of it, I would be interested in this for sure!

Re: Namm 2017 - Interesting?

I'm not the hugest dave smith fan, but the rev2 should be pretty cool.

a 16 voice, bi-timbral, analog synth that has effects, and an 8 slot mod matrix is a powerful machine. 2k USD may seem like a lot, but when you conisder how few analog poly synths exist, it's not so bad. It's definitely a fair price

Though I think I would probably go for the deepmind. Probably not as good build quality, and not bi-timbral. But other than that, very similar unit.

There is an 8 voice version for $1,500 too.

it is sick. really.

i leaned on it REALLY hard when I was working on the IDM's musics. Great FM-y percussion that gets really wild when one starts automating everything. As a matter of fact, w Max4Live (which didn't exist at the time) Utonic would be KILLER.

huh, well, i know what i'll be up to this afternoon....

I also rate the Microtonic. It sounds pretty similar to the Nord percussion tbh.

Damn, now you all have me really interested...I really like the Nord Drum...really puts the whole analog vs. digital debate to bed as far as percussion goes anyway. At least to my ears.

Re: Namm 2017 - Interesting?

microtonic is terrific. It has a certain "presence" many soft synths lack.

Two things I wish they would add, which would make it over the top bad ass.

-The morph kit feature is the shiz, but if you could do it on a per pad basis instead of the entire kit.. it'd be too rad.

- if you could modulate that morph with velocity. Well.. that'd be way too rad.

I actually rigged this up in Patcher in FL studio, but I had to have a microtonic instance per voice, and it was a huge pain to program and keep organized. But the results were stellar.

i love microtonic, but it's no analog drum machine. Different sound. Not necessarily better or worse, but different.

Man...I'm having a really bad run of not explaining myself well lol. Yea, absolutely. I just meant the whole "its gotta be all analog" crowd. Though I think that attitude has been in the down swing.

I was tired when I saw this thread last night, but I was going to say I'm itching to see someone do a statement piece of an unashamedly digital synth at the price point of all these analogue polysynths. I've heard that Access hasn't done much with the Virus in a while and Roland is doing good stuff, but almost all of it is trying to be a reissue of an analogue.

Throw some Sharc dsp processors on a board and have them do something that would melt my PC if I tried to do it in VST, something nutty with wavetables and additive partials idk, and since it's digital, let's cram way too many FX in there to ever be able to use them all, and maybe some audio ins (and a bitchin' ADC) so we can try. Hell, let's consider letting it double as an audio interface, maybe as an add-on option. If it were me, I'd buy multi-bit dacs from Schiit in bulk and set it up so that the whole engine can take advantage of those dacs while I was at it.

Studiologic Sledge and Modor NF-1 might fit that bill.
