So I just got "Handover" by Skinny Puppy

Vyrisus, so far is my favorite song. Though for the most part I think the vocals could be a little, tiny bit, more up front.

Further info forth coming in regards to my opinion.

What do you people think?

Re: So I just got "Handover" by Skinny Puppy

I really like it. Whenever I hear Icktums I want the vocals to be louder / more up front in the mix. Cullorblind they are so up front then some others they are really mixed in, but Icktums is the only one where I'm like "jeez why isn't that louder??"

the whole thing definitely got under my skin pretty quickly. even Ovirt, which at first I thought was a weak opener, now I really enjoy it. The whole thing feels very polished, dense, and somehow more 'serious' than Mythmaker felt to me (though I do like that album), though I'm not sure how to qualify what 'serious' means really; just a reaction.

favs: cullorblind, ashas, icktums, virysus. wavy is quite good too.

I don't know what to say about this album.
I like some tracks, but I find it really hard to listen to the album to the end without getting really bored.
On the other hand, I hated Mithmaker on first listen same goes for the latest Ohgr, so I might still change my mind...

Re: So I just got "Handover" by Skinny Puppy

I think Ogre had a great work in vocals, specially in Brownstone.

The album is great, it has beautiful moments, the only track that don't works for me is Noisex, when I heard the sample a couple of weeks ago I feel surprised, skinny puppy triyng to make some kind of breakcore xd, but after listening I feel like it was an uncomplete track, don't know... It's like the programming on the amen break is saddly repetitive

well noisex sounds to me like it's just a live jam that they liked enough to say 'let's close the new record with this!' Not exactly a song per se, just a brap.

Brapping is what they are known for, and I must say that the whole album does feel like a brap session with more polished bits. It will take some time for me to enjoy this album, but I'll give it a thumbs up since the synth work is pretty creative on this album.

Re: So I just got "Handover" by Skinny Puppy

The new album is a solid resumption of the SP vibe..

I only just don't take the clean dry beats which feel like alien elements in SP's sound to me. (Same for the previous album.)

Re: So I just got "Handover" by Skinny Puppy

I bought this album when it came out and listened to it several times. I like this album a lot, but it doesn't quite have that Skinny Puppy vibe..it has more of an oHgr vibe to it, and more Ohgr effects are used. You can also tell Cevin Key has been involved in making this album, as the IDM influence peaks through it. I wish SP would make more of an earlier style album with more of a classic industrial vibe. I am So excited for Weapon to come out, I'm probably buying the limited edition vinyl.

Yes!!! You will love them if you can appreciate industrial music. My favorite album I think is Mythmaker just because it is a bit of a departure. I have the album on vinyl and it is great! My favorite SP song is probably Worlock. If you have the complete discography, try listening from their earliest work to their newest. I find that when you do that, you develop more of an appreciation of classic industrial like their early works. If you have the BRAP albums, they are quite interesting. I hope that you enjoy SP because they are a band that pioneered industrial music, and no one compares to them in terms of originality.

i finished Remission, almost done with Bites. I listen when I go to school cause I have to commute so I have time to listen to music, plus the system in my car is nice. i like their old old stuff, recorded, super old school so far. i'm sure it'll get cooler with sound design later on. next i guess will be the Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse

yeah i usually always start at an artists earlier work and build through their discography to listen to the change in their sound. i am taking a liking to the idea of industrial elements, mixed with some other stuff. im playing with that idea for my own productions.
