I'm making an OST for a game (JRPG), and attempting to tread between engaging but not too distracting. I've spent more time on this track alone than I'm willing to admit, but I kind of need to know if it sucks.

Plz+thx

First three seconds of this track have really grabbed me, I'm so in. The synth work is really nice. Love the transition at 1:xx. The drum beat sounds a bit too much like it's a kit behind glass in a studio somewhere for my taste. Like I am literally picturing a drummer with headphones sitting in a booth. Thats the only critical comment I have. Take it or leave it. Track's real nice other than that IMHO. Great composition.

It had some moments where it was reminding me of Stardew valley, so I think you're on the right track. I would just tone it down one more notch, but IDK, the "Home Village" could be in an alley behind a power metal club. What I'm saying is if it fits the project, and you're happy with it, and the devs are happy with it, then you're off to a good start.

When would this play? Is this a theme song to play in the main menu or something then it's perfect, if it's meant to be played in the background while the player is doing things in the village then it might be too much.
Sending you a PM btw.

Re: [Video Game BGM] VFA - Home Village Theme [#1]

What the guys said..and RFJ (..who let him back in? ) is right about the drums..though as Auto touched on, a lot depends on how this is actually going to be used. I played it back both high and low and it could work in the background down low as it is, though it doesn't sound like your usual background incidental type music..but then I don't know the kind of game your working this into, so maybe I'm way off the mark on that.

Good tune overall..though those drums again..my subjective gut feeling would be to try some sort of electro-kit instead, with a little reverb to smear it out a little, but that's me..I love reverb..too much perhaps.

Re: [Video Game BGM] VFA - Home Village Theme [#1]

Totally could hear this in a JRPG, but as was mentioned about the drums feel as if they could be changed a bit. The electro kit sounds nice, but keep0 the kick, maybe change the snare and cymbals.

The bass is a little heavy for background music in a game. Don't forget they'll have Fx that might have a low end or need to occupy that space. But as mentioned we don't fully know where it will be placed in the game, so this could be me just throwing that out there.

The only other thing my ear is dying to hear som,e more of is either some lo-fi/no-fi elements, and or something bit crushed just to give it a little gritty edge.

Take what I am saying with a grain of salt as well.

Job well done! Thanks for sharing, and asking us to chime in!
