Good resynthesis plugins?

I've had my eye on alchemy for a couple years now (Just had other gear that felt important to buy in the meantime) but I did see a while ago that they've stopped selling it. Is there anything else thats similar, particularly with resynthesis?

I'm using ableton 64 bit on a mac,, so harmor is unfortunately not an option:\

Thanks !

Alchemy
The Mangle
Granulator II

I don't really know what else you need if you have all of those, so I'll stop there.

Take a look at harmor, I think it's great - the things you can make with it are crazy and it's really easy to use

If you are fine using a standalone program, Xenakios Hourglass is a wonderful granular tool.

For one, those are all granular, though Alchemy also does some additive resynthesis. Still, it's not as featured as Harmor would be, and iZotope Iris2 has some merits even though I personally found it massively unintuitive. Some phase-vocoder domain tools would also be welcome, as there can be some silly things achieved. Basic vocoders bear mention as well.

I've heard good things about iZotope's Iris 2 as well; you can important multiple layers of samples and it's got plenty of built in modulation and FX options. I haven't used it personally but I've heard a number of people say they really like it.

Did check out iris 2 though, i'll probly get it if nothing else comes up, many thanks my friends

Re: Good resynthesis plugins?

I only used Iris on my old PC and when I upgraded to a new PC I didn't bring it over, thinking of it now that I have my Macbook... Its great, but if you use live, many of the things you can do can be done with EQ/Filtering and Phasing effects, plus whatever else you can think of using audio fx-racks and time stretching.

Iris 2 is pretty amazing. I forget about this way too often myself.

Even Iris 1 was cool. It lacked LFO's and envelopes from what I remember, but it was still workable.

Personally I would recommend Absynth. Besides creating your patches starting from waveforms, you can also upload samples in Granular mode, and you have control on many parameters such as grain size, frequency, time stretch, grain density. I use it a lot in sound design and you can end up with interesting organic and cinematic sounds from any sample. Give it a try

Re: Good resynthesis plugins?

since you don't want Harmor or something on the PC i'd suggest Harmor.

Or a Kyma.

Re: Good resynthesis plugins?

seriously though, on a mac look into Iris, or fuck for the same money get Logic Pro and boom, you have Alchemy built in... Make your sounds, export, import into Ableton

Where there's a will there's a way, bootcamp into windoze and then use harmor.
Not the easiest, but I just wanted to throw it out there in case you hadn't considered it.

Re: Good resynthesis plugins?

You should try out Iris 2. Basically, it has a role to played into all of my Leads, Pads, Drum Textures, Bells, Clusters, and even in some bass.
In terms of Sound Design, i craft the sound I want into Diva, Blue II, Imposcar, Serum, Tal-U-No-Lx, Monark, or even some weird noises from unusual plugins and then associate them in Iris. The spectrum editor allows a lot of pleasant associations, and with a bit of practice, it can take the synth layering to a whole new level. And it comes with a 11GB library of sample (and even wave signals from classic analog synths). The modulation settings are awesome too.
Give it a go as it offers a lot of possibilities

Re: Good resynthesis plugins?

Harmor and Iris 2 are amazing, Harmor + Patcher from FL Studio is one of the best combinations, so much crazy stuff you can do with both of them.
