Nurse With Wound appreciation thread

Just curious to see if there are any other fans of Nurse With Wound out there, and if so, what your favourite albums are, maybe you have a NWW-related story to share, maybe they've inspired you to create some like-minded musical surrealism? My atrocious grammar aside, Nurse With Wound were (along with Current 93, SPK and Lustmord) one of the first industrial groups I ever heard, and while I can't say it's been an easy relationship for the last twenty or so years of listening, it certainly has been an eventful and rewarding one.

I say "industrial", but it's not exactly an all-encompassing term for what Steven Stapleton and his band of not-so-merry men and women have been creating for the last 35 or so years. It is, however the best catch-all term for this sometimes hilarious, sometimes frustrating, sometimes downright unsettling but always inspired musical game of Exquisite Corpse they've been playing since the late 70s that I can think of.

Soliloquy For Lilith is probably my pick for my favourite NWW album - a sprawling drone masterpiece rich in texture. It's by no means indicative of what they normally do - to be honest, I'm not sure there is an album in their massive discography that actually is, but to me it's a creative high-water mark among a history of seemingly carelessly dropped, yet finely crafted, jewels - Homotopy To Marie, Thunder Perfect Mind, Spiral Insana - to be honest, I can't think of anyone else like them, and there's a lot to be said for uniqueness.

I saw them in San Francisco about 6 years back, like 40 minutes of weird atmospheres, squeaks, and drones followed by a rendition of Old Man River. 10/10 would recommend!

oh hey, there's a youtube clip of that show:

Re: Nurse With Wound appreciation thread

I met Andrew Liles and some of the other guys back stage when I played at Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig a couple of years back with Satori. They seemed like nice blokes. I'd never seen them play before but I enjoyed their set and videos a lot.

Re: Nurse With Wound appreciation thread

Being HEAVILY into DIJ and C93, NWW was natural hearsay. I never got alot of music but I do love "I'm a Frayed Knot" and "Approaching Darkness Fish". Cool tracks.

I could talk about Current 93 all day though
