Icon6 What's in your studio?

I know there's the picture thread, but I am not at home and mine is horribly messy anyhow (will probably tidy up and post a pic later) but I thought it would be cool to talk about the hardware in your studio.
I only recently got into buying hardware and as an unemployed student it will be a while before I get anything else. It's small, and sometimes things get weird.
Basically name your gear and what device is your favorite!

Whats in my studio?
  • microKorg Synthesizer
  • Korg Volca Bass
  • Korg Volca Beats
  • Ableton Push Controller
  • Casio CTK-450 Keyboard
  • Sennheiser Evolution 835 Microphone
  • Realistic Pro-2021 Programmable Scanner
  • LifeGiver PC*
  • 2010 MacBook Pro

*LifeGiver is the name I gave my tower I built a couple years back. Quad-core AMD processor, ASUS MB, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA 650 TI Boost (2GB) with a 1.5 TB Samsung drive and seagate 4 TB external.
I call it LifeGiver because of the sole sticker on the black side of an extraterrestrial hugging the planet.

EDIT: Shit, forgot to list my favorite on my own thread but microKorg hands down.

I'd make a list but that could end rather lengthy and depressing.

Haha I appreciate the honesty. I'd love to report my work area is pristine and what not but well... let's just say I seem to be hoarding packs of sweet and sour sauce in front of my interface. There's a back scratcher on my main synth, and my school books currently piled on my controller. Plus I seem to have a problem throwing out dead lighters because they're everywhere.

Perhaps this thread could be an intervention for us all

Re: What's in your studio?

(sorry for the funny derail...that phrase is my favorite Cards Against Humanity card lol)

As for myself...I'm like @JMagee...listing everything in my studio would be a large list...

I guess my main two synths are a Mopho Keyboard and a Novation UltraNova...favorite FX unit is my OTO Biscuit, but I've got all kinds of junk kicking around even though I just slimmed down my studio significantly...

Been considering a Volca keys, how much different is it than the bass though? I love my 2 volcas a lot. Did you hear about the sampler they are adding to the Volca line?

I've heard nothing but great things about the microbrute. Really wanting one but I so dont have the room for any new equipment in my current setup. I probably will eventually get one though.

Re: What's in your studio?

The things I actually have hooked up right now are:

Elektron Octatrack
Korg KP3
Alesis q88 hooked to my computer

Really I haven't been using the kp3 but I think it will be cool to send things into it from the Octatrack, mangle them up, and then resample them in the Octatrack. I won't list the other stuff I have because I don't use it currently.

Re: What's in your studio?

I had a MicroBrute for about 18 months--I sold my Mopho Desktop for it because I wanted something easier to program. At first I was totally in love with it. And I'd still recommend it as a first hardware synth. But the last few months I had it I came to realize it was quite bland or quite distorted--it didn't do much in between. The metalizer for he triangle wave is cool. I liked the filter, but it didn't have a big enough sweet spot for me. The resonance had even less of one. Also, no noise oscillator which means no percussion synthesis : ( I honestly felt like if I wasn't doing something distorted with it, many of my VSTs had more character.

I ended up going back and getting a Mopho Keys instead--way more character and versatility of sound, but its really a much more complex synth.

Googled the Mopho. It seems way more expensive but a much better product. Now I want one

The Keys is very nice - you can slow the loop down to 1/2 or 1/4 speed for a longer loop (with 16 steps resolution or unquantised flux mode), automate several of the parameters and theres is 3 note polyphony.

I've been thinking about the Volca Sample for a while, would be a nice addition - but I have the KP3 for live sampling which is very fun.

The setup I'm experimenting with atm is with the record player and KP3, Volca Beats and Keys and the SQ-1 controlling my visuals and the MFB-522. I chose the Keys over the Bass for this slightly slimmed-down setup because of the polyphony and longer loops.

Re: What's in your studio?

Ok, I'm in. My setup at the house is:

-Shit laptop
-M-Audio Fast Track Pro (pretty shitty, especially since Avid bricked the driver)
-Korg Kontrol 49
-MPC1000
-Waldorf Blofeld
-TC Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 w/EV RE-20
-My Lakland

This is like my jamming set up. When I'm recording wtfever at the studio spot there's mics, other interfaces, some effects units, amps, etc. But that list gets depressing really fast.
