IDM Trends

Has anyone heard any new IDM trends? I'm not really keeping up very well. Where do you go to keep up with the new trends?

I rely on Pitchfork to shape my daily aesthetics and inform my consumer tendencies so they are in-line with their urban youthful demographic.

Re: IDM Trends

Well I used to go to Bleep.com from warp to stay up on trends. More recently I've found Bad Panda records has a pretty steady stream of cutting edge sounds.

Everything you mentioned is IDM essential. In fact I've nothing but hope that this is the year that IDM producers will take beards back from the hipsters.

I had a beard and shaved it off. Although I was watching videos on beard oil the other day.

I shaved my beard a few months back and realized it was the worst thing I could have done to myself short of drinking bleach. I'll never do that again!!!

I do like the way my beard would shape my face. Although I've found I make more sales at this weekend job without one. People just react better to me without a beard. Although reading about beard oil I've heard it helps win people over.

I use conditioner a lot. I wonder what this beard oil business is all about. So not to get completely off topic from the thread, I believe that incorporating a theremin into an IDM set could spice things up a bit.

Beard oil tames the shape of a beard. It also makes it softer and smells nice. I would like to try it, but I'm not sure I can not shave for the 5-8 months that it really needs. I do think it might help with my IDM live set too.

On a similar note, I was considering using my iPad in my live set. The animoog app is really similar to a theremin without having pitch issues. Maybe more expressive too. I've had trouble multitasking though. It takes considerable effort to incorporate a new instrument into a set.

Yeah, I'd really like to look into achieving the balance of software and hardware in a live setting.

Re: IDM Trends

I can't say I keep up on the trends. But as far as experimental and EDM in general goes, the idea of performing in costume has been huge from the seventies until now. Even I think about a potential costume for live shows.

I've got it on good authority that the next big thing will be the the audio equivalent of venetian blinds.
