no drum controllers?

is there seriously no drum pad controllers designed for sticks available anywhere in the entire world????????

I've spent hours looking for a drum pad controller that is not loaded with expensive inbuilt software and samples, but cannot find one :/ I would love to know if there is one that is available online

What about these?

Some of these have software, some don't, but are all meant to be played with sticks.

Re: no drum controllers?

Cheers, but still all include inbuilt hardware and software. Alesis used to make just a control pad but it's now discontinued

Re: no drum controllers?

I've heard the octopad is great, but it is very pricy, I don't need all the samples an inbuilt hardware

Re: no drum controllers?

Yeah, I've noticed this too.
The best solution price-wise is to just get a crappy second-hand system and run the brain as essentially a MIDI thru, but the pads on cheaper kits are usually cheap and nasty plastic jobs and don't give the same nice rebound as the likes of the Roland ones and the MIDI options tend to be much more limited, and don't always even have MIDI out.

Re: no drum controllers?

In my experience, controllers have a hard time registering all the velocity changes and hits when you're playing fast stuff with sticks. Every controller I've tried to play really fast taiko style percussion on sounds like shit. I'm assuming you've got to get a nice expensive electric drum set to get the best results.

I could be wrong, but I think the older version that my friend had was just a midi controller. Perhaps look at the older version and see if you can find it on Ebay?

Re: no drum controllers?

You could try building your own with a cheap kit, it would be midi and just trigger samples from your computer.

Re: no drum controllers?

I've managed to chase up a used Alesis control pad, Alesis is a good brand, I've seen reviews that it's good but not as good as the Roland, i'll find out on Monday I guess

Re: no drum controllers?

Got it on Monday, have played it for a couple of days now and it's pretty good, pads could be a little more sensitive on lighter taps, but over all it's pretty good
