Re: The Poetry Thread

Lost within the ruins of the past regret,
Holding on to the the thoughts of you.
The walls of love are closing in,
to hold it back the wager is sin.
At last one day to come to let it go,
summer passion turned to winter snow.

Re: The Poetry Thread

Lyrics have to count right? I mean...it's the same thing just put to music. Doesn't poetry always looks better in italics...

Heart in A Casket

Drowning in sorrow
ever since the day you left,
still waiting to remember
eyes blind and you were gone
it’s colder than death
and you would never see

to sleep forever
bleaker than death
the candle burns away
eternal darkness
the cunning liar lurking
lying next to me

I can still feel the air
it’s colder than death
but you could never see
heartless despair
staring at me blind
still waiting to remember

the dead flowers
cover your grave
sunlight turns to grey
funeral pyre
empty souls mourning
dying next to you

Now that the winter comes
the air so cold
yet you will never see
my heart in a casket
fading from the earth
and no one will remember

Now that the fall has come
the air is so dead
that you would never see

my heart in a casket
fading from the earth
and no one will remember

to live forever
colder than death
the vision drifts away
my body is a grave
the final resting place
right here next to you
a heart in a casket

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturations are to me
As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee.
Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes,
And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles,
Or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts
With my blurglecruncheon, see if I don't!

Re: The Poetry Thread

I don't read much poetry, but I really like this one by Rudyard Kipling

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Re: The Poetry Thread

Little Johnny went for a walk one day, along the winding clifftop.
He was on his way to school and was late, he didn't have time to stop.

He looked up above and saw some gannets diving deep.
While over on the hillside, a flock of grazing sheep.

He watched a rabbit hurry by, only to vanish down a hidden hole.
And as he watched the world around him, it touched his very soul.

He stopped just for a moment, to ponder on all that was there.
Then he slipped and fell off the cliff and thought, "Shit, this isn't fair!"

This fog once was my enemy.
Everyday surrounding me.
Lackluster and opaque.

But a soon as i forgave myself
And put my fears on the shelf
This fog began to quake.

Now bright colours and hope
Both inspire me to cope.
Negativity i now forsake.

Ugh. I'm out of practise. Perhaps i should stick to pimp haikus.

Re: The Poetry Thread

Can't take all the credit here, a little Poe my my paraphrasing.

Vigil

a repose in light
neither fever nor languor
on a bed or a meadow
neither violent nor weak

the beloved neither
tormenting nor tormented.
the world not sought
And the dream grew cold

lighting comes
to the crown again
From the extremities
harmonic elevation

the watcher
succession
atmospheric
accidents

Intense dream
sentimental groups
of all possible characters
amidst all possible appearances

The lamps and the rugs
of the vigil make the noise
of waves in the night
along the hull around the steerage

The sea of the vigil
The hangings, halfway up,
emerald tinted lace,
where dart the doves

the black hearth,
suns of seashores
magic wells
the only sight of dawn

i guess that was abit silly here's one of my favorites, it's written by ray bradbury.

The fence we walked between the years did balance us serene.
It was a place half in the sky wearing the green of leaf and promising of peach.
We’d reach our hand and touch and almost touch the sky.
If we could reach and touch we said, it would teach us not to, never to, be dead.

We ached and almost touched that stuff; our reach was never quite enough.
If only we had taller been and touched god’s cuff, his, his hem.
We would not have to go with them who’ve gone before,
who short as us stood tall as they could stand,
and hoped by stretching, tall, that they might keep their land,
their home, their hearth, their flesh and soul,
but they like us were standing in a hole.

Oh Thomas, will a race one day stand really tall?
Across the void, across the universe and all,
and measured out with rocket fire,
at last put Adam’s finger forth; as on the Sistine ceiling,
and God’s hand come down the other way, to measure man,
and find him good, and gift him with forever’s day?

I work for that, short man, large dream.
I send my rockets forth between my ears,
hoping an inch of good is worth a pound of years.
Aching to hear a voice cry back along the universal mall,
“We’ve reached Alpha Centauri.. We’re tall... Oh God, we’re tall!”

The rhythm cracks open and cascades
in caterpillar lines that crawl
from the speakers with fervent
grace,

the waves curl
in spiraling planes
that spread like melting
glass,

I am full of reflection
as my symbol-painted mind
is swallowed by
this momentary
bliss.
