aight.
so i had this idea for another collaborative music project, which is based entirely on sound design and processing.

the idea is this: we, as a community, pick out several processing methods, write them up in a list, then we as a community setup a list of audio designers to make an entire piece of audio compromised mainly by this processing method. don't get it? let me explain further.

an example would be:
Processing Method: Flanger.
Participan: gbsr.

what i would do then is to make an entire new piece of music (any genre) where the main element of the entire song would be the effect flanger. i might write a melody where i automate the feedback and frequency of the flanger, or i might slowly mutate the flanger while doing some stereomagic type of deal in a soundscape; as long as the most prominent element is the processing method, anything goes.

another example could be:
Processing Method: Resampling.
Participan: gbsr.

i could make a piece of audio where i resample and mutate an audiosource into something entirely different over time. as long as the most prominent (or obvious, if you wish) element is the resampling process, anything goes. in this case, switching sourcefiles over and over would probably be a bad idea, as you can't really depict the resampling process then.

i'll give a third example as well then.

Processing Method: Compression.
Participant: gbsr.

I could make a track that uses compression as an effect rather than a dynamics processing tool to introduce compression artifacts, and to bring out and play around with the dynamics of a source in unusual ways (such as overdriven multibanded reverbs, perhaps, or long chains of paralleled multiple compression chains), Chris Clark would be a great example of someone playing with compression in interesting ways.

if we don't get enough participants we could surely do several processing methods as well, but the idea is one method per participant which is supposed to be the most prominent element in the track (key here is most prominent, not limited to only this method).

anyone game?

i would like to keep the results in stereo only, as i doubt many of us are sitting a good treated Aura 3d, 7.1 or 5.1 studio anyways.

too bad there's no way to open a public editable post, like a wiki, otherwise people could just sign up and edit the master post with their processing method preference and their name.

bingo. no rules other than the one that the processing method needs to be the most prominent portion of the mix, which invites the participant to really think about the process and what they are doing with it, and hopefully in turn makes us see things (or hear, as it is) things from a new perspective. this is all about experimentation.

i will tackle the process "gain".

i'll start with silence, apply massive amounts of digital gain and parallel process it with shit tons of analog gain and make a tune out of that.
