Hey, new installment of those Release threads, this one will be the dubstep/halfstep bass music of 2017. Stuff that seem to bring something new or interesting to the table (whatever that might mean for you).
I'll start off with this release from February @ Diffrent Music
Bugs have a soul, by Still.
This one and Mauoq's Expat are two releases from Diffrent that seem to go the route of minimal, experimental, ambient dub atomspheres. It's unwilling to go club banger, and instead remains tight and evolves slowly.
Great EP by New Zealand footwork artist Surly, exposing his style here with first two tracks that use long jazz saxophone lines and cutup double bass line over broken beats with rather unconventional sounds for the genre. Track four may be the most conventional of all of them. Promising ambient junglish finish.
I just discovered this UK-based label, White Peach Records. Here's their latest releases :
This one starts with a kind of grime blues experiment, then continues having fun with the sampling and crisp drum fills (though Zen Harder can't get near as classy as Drew's Theory's Bushido EP )
Bengal Sound goes radically minimal on Wushu Hand. The implied groove on 2-Worlds is remarkable.
