Probably most of you know this, but here are few tips to save CPU:

When you need a simple EQ, you can just use the EQ that is situated in every mixer track.
When you need a dealy, you can either use one that is built in your VST you are using (most fruity instruments have it) or again, each FX channel hase one also, on the bottom of the mixer beside EQ.
When you need to apply one effect to multiple of channels (I usually do this with reverb), use send channels and leave the FX channels alone.

When you see a knob you want to manually automate but can't (right click on the knob doesn't work), you don't have to use the "last tweaked parameter" option that was stated before in this thread. Hit record, tweak the knob a bit, hit stop. Go to piano roll and from top bar there is small arrow, and under that arrow you can select your automations, it has now appeared in piano roll.
