Sorry if this is confusing...

What I was thinking is using three instruments only. If you use a sampler it can only have nine samples of single shots, 3 sec tops. That means nine drum sounds. Not sure, benwaa, how you make tracks with only three one shot samples only. That would be one kick, one snare, and one hi-hat?

Say you use a 909 and a 303 clone and one synth, that's it as far as the idea goes. Anything beyond that would have to come from automating and using FX. Somewhat like using hardware only, so changing presets via automation really isn't the idea (but if you use a multi Osc synth, seems legit to do some fancy tuning of the sound, e.g. Utilizing all six oscillators in Blue).

Actually, as I started thinking it through, it started to feel pretty limiting.

So, three units that generate sound (synth, drum computer, sampler) only. Each individual sampler no more than 9 samples each, with samples 3 sec max). That's it.
