[Electronica/IDM] Soarer - Her Face Lingers

Made a new track and it would be great to hear what you think.

This track is quite varied and goes through different pieces. It is all very melodious.

All my beats are processed found sounds/field recordings so let me know it they are too rough.
This is of course Electronica/IDM so the sounds are meant to be a bit noisy.

Also comments about the mixing sound of this track is most welcome.
Let me know what you think.

This is freaking awesome! You've got great use of panning and layering here to keep things interesting. I'd love to see how you handled the percussive bits in the mix since they sit so well with everything else. Overall, good work!

Thanks man! Really glad you like it.
Anyone else care to comment on my track?

I have made the kick in the beginning a bit less hard but haven’t updated yet.

About the percussive bits..:
I use Live's Drum Racks and play all beats from there. I have an EQ Eight on every drum chain so that I can make each sample fit in the mix. I have a compressor on the drum track and some light, short reverb (mainly early reflection). Then often I use all kinds of delay, pitch, granular, mangling effects to glitch up stuff and see what interesting sounds arise.

I always treat the sample with EQing first and a Limiter in order to raise it's volume a bit.

Fantastic. I do love some melodic IDM, and this parallels work by Ochre and Wisp in that regard. Love the bass, sounds so comfortable in the mix. The drums are excellent and the work you put into them has really paid off, that soft reverb is right in the sweet spot.

hi there. The drums are indeed tight. the bass is really too quiet for my taste, and I have headphones with good bass response. perhaps te answer would be to lower the DB on the leads a bit and then re-level the whole thing, dunno. the lead does sort of loose its way throughthe first half in the sense that is mostly just repeats the existing themes. You could add more interest if you change that voice up more, add some delays, something to evolve it.

Overall a really chill piece, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the fine feedback guys. I appreciate that you took the time for it.

Lately I have found that I really had to bring the bass down quite a bit since it's always too loud when I listen on my family's stereo and in my friends studio. I use the Adam A7 and since they don't have that much bass I have been compensating. I guess it can be raised slightly but I'll have to check.

I'll see if I can evolve the melody synth a bit too, but no promises! Haha :D

And thanks for the comment on Soundcloud Creepr :)

During the first 15 seconds I thought it was going to go all haywire ;) But this is a darn good track in my opinion. Especially with the sinusy melody in the first half and that you change it in the second half. Loads of sounds going on, but it all works.

Thanks Goski!

With haywire did you mean that you found the beginning a bit rough or messy? I've had a hard time making the beat sounds in the beginning blend well in the mix without damping their clarity.
But I'd be glad to hear what you meant.

Re: [Electronica/IDM] Soarer - Her Face Lingers

My thought was that it was going to be a very basic melody just using waves and then a harsh drumline but you turned it around. No, I think the beginning is good. an't help but to feel Aphexy about your tune :)

Soarer SoundWorks is proud to present the immediate availability of “Her Face Lingers V1.1! :D
This update brings a number of bugfixes and several new features.

Changes:

* EQed the kick in the beginning so that it’s less hard
* Added a few variations to the Melody synth and some of the pads
* Raised the Bass volume 0.2 dB
* Lowered the Melody synth 0.5 dB
* Lowered the main pad 0.5-1 dB
* Switching from MDynamicsLimiter to MMultibandLimiter has brought increased loudness and clarity

And many other fixes under the hood!
Hope you like it!

Great tune overall. I love the melodys and the pads, right up my street. Also really digging the found sound percussion, is al placed, panned and EQ'd perfectly. Only criticism is sometimes found it meandering a bit too slowly, felt it lacked direction at times. Perhaps not the right elements showing through at the right times to keep interest.

This is cool Plaid style.. Great organic blend of beats, melodies, strings.. brimming over with agility.

I wouldn't mind introducing a drastic change of melody or chord progression at some point.
Nice drums as said above !

Great track, the opening melody is pretty captivating. Personally i want to hear the drums drop out earlier and build on the chords and top melody for a more of a change . I still really like the track though atmosphere is great

Really glad to come back and see your comments! For some reason I didn't get notifications before strangerflesh's comment.

I like to have melodic passages that does repeat for some time since I find them pleasant and kind of bliss inducing - maybe a bit like techno 😄
I'm so glad that you all like the drums. That was actually the main thing I was worried about but no need to change too much there then.

Just coming back to listen to it again I can hear quite a number of things I want to correct. The mix can be cleaned a bit more and I think I can make it more clear. The tempo needs a sliiight increase too.
I'll be back 😎

Thanks again guys.

This necro was definitely necessary. Nothing about it sounds mechanical or noisy in any shape or form, and it's actually one of the more interesting tracks I've heard in the LB lately.

There's really no need for critique whatsoever, IMO. It's pretty much perfect.

Awesome! Thanks man.
Necro? What do you mean?

Re: [Electronica/IDM] Soarer - Her Face Lingers

This is great. I like the extra percs. Sounded a little messy at first when it was just those percs in the intro but then when your pads come in it ties it all together and sounds very clean and gives the song lots movement.

I like the bass line too. Great Bass sound. Fits well.

I was really hoping we'd get a defined melody but I think that's just a genre thing.

Production wise this is solid. A+. Good work.

Oops, I thought the original post was made longer ago. Not a necro at all
