BB 67 - NOT QUITE RIGHT

THE RULES

1. The feeling of your track must evolve gradually into something completely different from what you started with. Make that evolution as smooth as possible.

2. The rhythm must feel "off". Interpret that as you will.

3. Use the samples provided only.

This sample-set is really interesting, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by: "no resampling". How am I supposed to use the samples if I can't sample from them?

Re: BB 67 - NOT QUITE RIGHT

Yeah, just how literally are we supposed to take 'no resampling'? Because that could imply no use of pitch!

I guess it just means no isolating loops after paulstretching, etc. ;)

Find some interesting threads and join discussion... but not short, quick responses. Thought out responses are best. Go review a track in the listening booth. Discuss your favorite bands in the Music Scene Chat. Explore production methods in the Studio.

Do you mean we can only use the sampling rate at which the samples are at already?

About 20 listening booth reviews should do it. ;)

...But you could tell us your soundcloud name and we would be able to find it, unless it's a private track.

That doesn't really matter no.

I mean you don't apply effects, bounce, and reuse the result.

That means no paulstretch for example.

Nice rules. Finally reinstalled rig, activate every friggin plugin (Korg is going to be an unofficial install this time round. Cant be hassled with the multiple C&R's!). Maschine 3 hopefully due this week. So sweetness and harmony almost back in my realm :)

Nice rules, grabbing pack now. I love raw sampling...nice one lebeux :)

What if we just have fx on the sample, and bounce it to our final mix?

What about time stretch?

About the "no resampling" rule: Please note that delay effects are live resamplers.

So if I record a sampler track with delay on it, it means that I'm resampling the original sample with resampling already added to it, - and that if I then mix the recorded track with other tracks like it, I'll be resampling resampled resamples, creating a resample resample resample.

I hope this helps:)

Bouncing for mixdown and master is ok.
Time stretch is ok if it's realtime (as a function of your sampler or a granular plugin or whatever). I guess it's also okay if you load the sample provided straight into an audio track and do all your edits there, as long as you don't export the result for use in a sampler or on another audio track.

Not sure I'm being clear, hum

Okay then, I'm scratching that rule, the idea is simple but I've no idea how to put it in a few words.

Sorry about the poor attempt at humour. I was trying to make fun of my own twisted attempts at understanding and taking everything too literally. I'm an idiot. If I understand you correctly, what you'd like us to do, is to stay as close to the original sound of the source samples as possible. So minimal altering only. A bit like old school "musique concrète" maybe.

I actually like the idea of trying to use the samples as unaltered as possible, although I kind of expect it to end up sounding terrible in my hands.

It'll be an interesting challenge nonetheless. Thanks!

Programs: Fruitypoops 11, Soundforge 10, sometimes Harbal 2.3.
Equipment: DT770 headphones, Clipper lighter, generic glass ashtray.
